Explore Ireland coast, seaside and beaches

Ireland has approximately 3170km (1970 miles) of coastline with a big difference between the westerly shores exposed to the force of the Atlantic Ocean and the more sheltered east coast. Ireland has a wide variety of beaches from the city beaches of Dublin, to small coves around West Cork.

Achill Island lies off the coast of County Mayo and is Ireland's largest island. It is a popular tourist destination for surfing and contains Blue Flag beaches and Croaghaun one of the worlds highest sea cliffs.

Ireland is separated from Great Britain by the Irish Sea and the North Channel, which has a width of 23km (14 miles) at its narrowest point.

There are three World Heritage Sites on the island: the Brú na Bóinne, Skellig Michael and the Giant's Causeway.
