Explore Dartmouth (Devon) Seaside, Coast and Beaches

Dartmouth sits on the western bank of the estuary of the River Dart within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Dartmouth was of strategic importance as a deep-water port for sailing vessels and the estuary entrance is protected by Dartmouth castle. Today Dartmouth is still home to the Britannia Royal Naval College. Dartmouth has a wide selection of shopping, galleries, museums, arts and crafts. If you also like food then many cafes/restaurants offer local sourced produce. The area is not just about forts and castles but several stately homes and gardens in the surrounding area are worth a visit. A boat trip along the River Dart to Agatha Christie's holiday home at Greenway is a must. The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta takes place annually over three days at the end of August. The event includes traditional regatta boat races along with markets, fun fairs, community games, air displays.
