Donaghadee is a pretty seaside town just 29 km (18 miles) to the east of Belfast on the Ards Peninsula within County Down, Northern Ireland. Donaghadee has a picturesque harbour and views over the Copeland Islands to Scotland, the town is the closest point to Scotland in Northern Ireland.
Donaghadee was the province's principal port before Belfast became the major city and much of the town's development resulted from ships and shipping. As Belfast took over then Donaghadee became a seaside destination for those wanting to escape the city.
