Explore Seaham (Durham) Beaches and Coast

Seaham is a small Victorian harbour town on County Durham's Heritage Coast. Seaham is at the heart of a string of former coal-mining villages (Easington, Murton and Peterlee) that line the North Sea shoreline between Teesside and Tyneside. Seaham is known for finding polished coloured sea glass on the beach and the town has a number of shops and galleries selling local art, jewellery and crafts made from Seaham glass. Sea glass has been polished and made into fragments and smooth pebbles by the churning action of the waves. In Seaham's case the glass originates from the glass-bottle works waste disposed out to sea. Seaham has two beaches, Red Acre and the sandy beach to the North.
