Explore Hastings (East Sussex) Seaside, Coast and Beaches

Hastings sits on the south coast in East Sussex overlooking the English Channel. It was an important fishing port and still has the largest beach launched fishing fleet in Europe. Hastings claim fame is the Battle of Hastings (1066), and later when it became one of the medieval Cinque Ports, and up until the 16th century, with other coastal towns provided the ships and men who guarded king and country. The town became a popular seaside resort with the arrival of the railway. Today the seafront still has a focal point of its pier and the long beachfront where in Hastings beaches are pebble with at low tide large areas of sand. If you want a sandy beach then you will need to head to the east of Hastings where you get some good sandy beaches like Camber Sands.
