Explore Saltburn-by-the-Sea (North Yorkshire) Coast & Beaches

Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a North Sea resort in North Yorkshire that keeps a lot of it's original Victorian charm. Saltburn has the last remaining pier in Yorkshire, when it was opened in 1869 access was difficult down the steep cliffs and so a wooden cliff hoist was created and later replaced by The Saltburn Cliff Lift, also known as the The Saltburn tramway, which is one of the world's oldest water-powered funiculars. This takes visitors down the 120ft cliff with some great views. The Saltburn Miniature Railway is a 15inch (381mm) gauge railway that runs south from Cat Nab Station close to the beach, for about half a mile inland to Forest Halt, where there is a woodland walk and the Italian Gardens. Saltburn is also on the 110-mile long Cleveland Way National Trail.
