Whitby Destination Guide

Whitby is a seaside town and harbour in North Yorkshire and is surrounded by either the moorland of the North York Moors National Park or the North Sea. It has always been an attractive tourist destination due to its proximity to the North York Moors National Park, its Heritage Coastline and by its association with Bram Stoker's novel Dracula which was set in Whitby. One of the most famous landmarks is the abbey ruin at the top of the East Cliff overlooking the town and harbour. Whitby's maritime past is commemorated by statues of Captain James Cook (Cook learned his trade on colliers, shipping coal from the port) and William Scoresby (designer of the crow's nest), as well as a whalebone arch that sits at the top of the West Cliff.
