The Flight of the Earls Heritage Centre

The Flight of the Earls Heritage Centre has exhibitions, displays including wax figures dressed in period costumes, period weapons, models, maps and literature and much more.

In the aftermath of the English defeat of the Gaelic Irish at Kinsale, in 1607 the Earl of Tyrconnell, and the Earl of Tyrone left Rathmullan, with ninety of their followers including the leading Gaelic families in Ulster. This flight left the path open for James II to populate Ulster with English and Scottish Protestant settlers. The subsequent history of Ulster was marked by centuries of ethnic and religious strife.
