Skipsea Castle is a Norman motte and bailey castle, dating from before 1086. In 1221 the then castle’s owner, William de Forz, the Count of Aumale, rebelled against Henry III; the castle was captured by royalist forces and the King ordered it to be destroyed. In the 14th Century the Bayle was the Gatehouse to Bridlington Priory. Today the Bayle is a Grade I listed Building and it’s exhibits frequently change. Access to the museum is via two staircases, one of these being a stone spiral with rope handrail. Read more…
