  • Ben Cruachan is a mountain in the Southern Highlands and is popular among hikers and climbers as the views are stunning!

This 1126m high mountain is the highest point in Argyll and Bute and the nearby hydroelectric power dam is named after it. It is the high point of a circle of mountains called the Cruachan Horseshoe. (The word ‘cruachan’ is the war shout for the clans MacIntyre and Campbell – handy to know!)

Here, the slopes are steep but easy to climb and there are a variety of other routes to tackle like Meall Duanail. The ridge walk o Stob Daimh takes you around the reservoir on rocky paths but witha a grassy descent. There may well be snow lying so this is not for inexperienced climbers.
