Armagh Observatory was founded in 1790 by an Archbishop of the Church of Ireland and is now one of the country’s leading researchers into astronomy. You’ll find it just across from the Armagh Planetarium!
Here, astronomers study the Sun, Stellar Astrophysics, Solar Systems and the Earth’s climate.
The fourteen acreas of land attached to the observatory are great to walk around as there are sundials and telescopes and the famous Astropark to enjoy!
Kids will love the Astropark as it is based on a to scale model of the Universe and you can walk around it to find out more about our Solar System and even what lies beyond that. Brilliant for budding astronauts as you find out more about the planets and just how far they really are from Earth!
Best part of this day out? Access is free and it’s open all year round! So, pack up the kids this half term and take them to explore the Universe.
There is limited wheelchair access to the building. There’s a great website to find out more before you visit.
