- About Us
Navan Centre and Fort is an ancient monument of great historical importance as it was the capital and home to the Kings of Ulster.
Here you can find out more about the Iron Age and early Christian life from the way they lived to the homes they lived in. The centre has multi lingual and interactive exhibitions that really bring this era to life.
The Navan Fort is set on what is believed to be a pagan sanctuary or ‘drumlin’ and comprises an earthwork of two monuments on the hill, a barrow (burial site) and a mound. Myths tell of this being the sacred place of the Red Branch Knights and it is one of a few sites that indicate this was a prehistoric capital at one time along with Co Meath, Kildare and Tara. Archaeological findings have included ceremonial structures from the Iron Age.
