You don’t get a prize for guessing why Newtrain Bay is also known locally as Rocky Beach. The beach located to the west of Trevone Bay is the perfect beach for shell collecting and rock pooling which should not be a surprise based on the local name. When the tide is high you have no beach but as the tide goes out you get large rock slabs interspersed with rock pools.
Newtrain Bay is a big contrast to Trevone Bay with some very interesting rock formations and is well worth the short stroll from the sand of Trevone beach. If you walk a little further along the coastal footpath you will find a natural sea-water swimming pool hidden amongst the rock slabs.
The beach is basically the same location as Trevone Bay and so you have access to the car park, toilets, beach cafe and shop although you don’t have lifeguards.
Newtrain Bay Beach is dog friendly and allows dogs all year.
Water samples are taken at regular intervals during the bathing season and at the end of the season the water quality is classified as: - Excellent: the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest - Good: generally good water quality - Sufficient: meets minimum standards - Poor: You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
