North Sands beach can be found to the south of Salcombe between two headlands in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and adjacent to the ruins of Salcombe (Fort Charles) Castle. The beach at North Sands is a small beach with fine sand that all but disappears at high tide. Limited parking and facilities inculde toilets, shop and cafe. Read more…
Maceley Cove beach is a sandy beach that disappears at high tide and sits under the protection of the high cliff of Gammon Head. Access is down a steep path from the coast path above and for the adventurous swimmers you can swim around to Elender Cove to the east. This is a small museum located under the Tourist Information Centre. Although small it has a great selection of models, paintings, photographs which depict the story of Salcombe’s links with ships and the sea. Read more…
Hope Cove is a sandy sheltered by the “Bolt Tail” headland. Hope Cove is a small seaside fishing village actually split into Inner Hope and Outer Hope. The beach in Outer Hope is also called Mouthwell Sands. Popular surfing, watersports and diving beach. Good coastal walks. Elender Cove is a small sandy cove with rocks tucked between Gammon head and Prawle Point. Excellent coastal walks on this stretch of coast which is the Southernmost point of Devon. The cover has no facilities and you can’t really get down to it, with the best option being a swim from Maceley Cove. Read more…
