Ringstead Bay Beach

Ringstead Bay Beach is a shingle beach in a quiet rural location and is ideal for those who are looking for a peaceful day out.  As the tide goes out you will get some sand and the beach is overlooked by unspoilt farmland and cliffs.

The bay was once used by smugglers and is now a popular location for fossil hunters – this is the Jurassic coast.

There is a pay car park just up from the beach (plus shop and cafe) OR free parking at Southdown, the National Trust land at the top of the cliff, but with a long steep walk from the beach.

We have no current information on dog restrictions for Ringstead Bay Beach.

Why not check other beaches nearby as we have 12 beaches at Weymouth, 57 beaches in Dorset, or check our list of Dorset Dog Friendly Beaches.

Beach Water Quality

Water samples are taken at regular intervals during the bathing season and at the end of the season the water quality is classified as:
  - Excellent: the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest
  - Good: generally good water quality
  - Sufficient: meets minimum standards
  - Poor: You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
