- Hi, my name is Paula and i run Peblsrock Seaglass, based in Seaham, close to our fabulous beaches. I run an online business supplying sea glass, jewellery and art through my etsy stores Peblsrock and Peblsart. In addition I offer help to visitors looking for sea glass and can make jewellery to order with the pebls that you find. You can either contact me to arrange to meet you at the beach when you visit or if you’re popping by at a weekend, then come down to the Lookout cafe at weekends where you’ll find my pop-up shop. It’s next to the marina in Seaham so just follow the signs. I also write children’s books, with the first two of a five volume set already in print. These feature the history of Seaham in a child friendly way along with a fictional explanation for the sea glass that is found on the beach. The stories feature a family of mermaids and a single would-be pirate who finds himself stranded on a sand bank just offshore. Find out more about their adventures buy purchasing the books as they come out and if you’re really into mermaids, or pirates, why not back our projects on Kickstarter.link as we crowdfund each book. Hope to see you soon. Paula
- Red Acre is a small rock and shingle beach with sand is exposed as the tide goes out. The beach is bordered by the harbour on one side and the main long Seaham beach on the other. The beach is backed by the town of Seaham. The beach is also known as Terrace beach. This beach is in Seaham town and you have all facilities in the town behind the beach along with a harbour.
- Seaham Beach is a long stretch of sand sitting beneath grassy cliffs and is part of the Durham Heritage Coast. The beach is also referred to as Seaham North beach as it runs north away from the town itself. Until 1921, Seaham was the location of the largest glass-bottle works in Britain. Founded by John Candlish in 1853, under the patronage of the 4th Marquess of Londonderry. During the works operation glass waste was dumped into sea, and now with every tide sand-polished glass stones can be gathered. You have parking at various positions along the seafront and facilities include toilets, picnic area and pub. As you move towards the harbour and Red Acre Beach you get the main part of the town with a selection of places to eat. The beach is often used for sea angling competitions along with the North pier of the harbour.
