St Andrews West Sands Beach

The West Sands at St Andrews is a long stretch of sand backed by the famous Royal & Ancient Golf Club. You may also recognise it as the beach was used for the famous opening sequence of Chariots of Fire.

The sandy beach stretches for 3 km (2 miles) and is backed by large grass areas and sand dunes. Between May 1st and September 30th, dogs are not allowed on the part of the beach nearest the town.

There are multiple parking options along the full 3 km. The further away from St Andrews you go, the less facilities you have access to. At points along the road, walkways take you across the dunes onto the beach itself.
