Fountains Abbey Information
Fountains Abbey is a ruined abbey set in 800 acres of beautiful countryside just outside Ripon in North Yorkshire.
Founded in 1132, Fountains is England’s largest monastic ruin and most complete Cistercian abbey. It operated for nearly 400 years until 1539 when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
Today the abbey grade I listed building is owned by the National Trust and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors can wander around the abbey ruins and the stunning Georgian water garden of Studley Royal. There is also a medieval Deer Park for you to explore!
