Runswick Sands Beach Info | North Yorkshire Coast

Runswick Sands is a sheltered sandy beach with rock pools on either side of the bay at Runswick. Although this can be a large sandy beach with no sand at high tide, it is worth checking the Runswick Bay tide times below when planning a visit to avoid disappointment.

The beach at Runswick Sands allows dogs all year round.

Runswick Bay Beach, as it is also known, is a great beachcombing beach location, you may find ammonites, dinosaur footprints, polished semi-precious stones, and shark eggs within many Jurassic rocks and rock pools.

The beach is in front of a charming village a few miles north of Whitby in North Yorkshire, built into the steep hillside, which includes a sailing club and several pleasure and fishing boats.

The bay also has an inshore Runswick Bay Rescue Boat (RBRB), which occupies the former RNLI station that closed in the late 1970s. The RBRB Association is an independent registered charity relying on volunteers and funded by donations.

Facilities include a pay and display car park, toilets, cafe, shop, pub, lifeboat and slipway. Note that it is a steep road down from the car park to the beach.
