Runswick Sands Beach (aka Runswick Bay Beach)

Runswick Sands is a sheltered sandy beach with rock pools on either side of the bay at Runswick. Although this can be a large sandy beach you have no sand at high tide so it is worth checking the Runswick Bay tide times below when planning a visit to avoid disappointment.

Runswick Bay Beach as it is also known is a great beachcombing beach location, you may find ammonites, dinosaur footprints, polished semi-precious stones, and shark eggs within many Jurassic rocks and rock pools.

The beach is in front of a charming village a few miles north of Whitby in North Yorkshire, built into the steep hillside which includes a sailing club as well as a number of pleasure and fishing boats.

The bay also has an inshore Runswick Bay Rescue Boat (RBRB) which occupies the former RNLI station that closed in the late 1970s. The RBRB Association is an independent registered charity relying on volunteers and funded by donations.

Facilities include a pay and display car park, toilets, cafe, shop, pub, lifeboat and slipway. Note that it is a steep road down from the car park to the beach.

Runswick Sands Beach has been awarded a regional Seaside Award.

Runswick Sands Beach is dog friendly and allows dogs all year.
