Not hard to figure out why this Burnham-on-Sea beach is called Lighthouse beach and the best known and photographed landmark in this part of Somerset.
The Grade II Heritage-listed nine-legged wooden lighthouse is 11m (36ft) tall, was built in 1832 and with care, you can walk out to the lighthouse.
This beach is the continuation of the main beach at Burnham-on-Sea and continues for a further six miles offering wide-open expanses of sand with dunes at the top of the beach.
Take note that at low tide you can get large areas of mud, pay attention to the warning signs.
The beach is warden patrolled in the summer and you have limited parking so one option is to walk from the Burnham seafront.
