With the nights drawing in and the cold weather just around the corner, we can be excused for dreaming of faraway destinations, imagining ourselves relaxing on a sun lounger enjoying the heat as we look out across a swimming pool or white sand beach.

Florida

Florida enjoys sunshine pretty much all year round so winter is no exception, whether it’s the fun of the adrenaline-filled theme parks or the stunning beach resorts of the Gulf of Mexico there is something for everyone in the ‘Sunshine State.’ The beaches of St Petersburg, Clearwater and Marco Island all make for the perfect relaxing break consisting of long afternoons spent enjoying the sun, or if you are looking for something a little bit more fast-paced the world-famous theme parks of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, and Epcot to name but a few are on hand to provide endless hours of entertainment.

The Canary Islands

If a long haul flight is not for you, The Canary Islands can be the perfect spot to enjoy some winter sun closer to home. Frequent flights operating from the UK and the cheap deals that are readily available make these winter sun destinations some of the most popular for us Brits. The islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma all offer their own unique charms with the common factor of sunshine and warm temperatures. Head to Tenerife for black sand beaches and stunning volcanic landscapes, Gran Canaria if you prefer some white sand beaches and great nightlife, and for those sporty types head to Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, where windsurfing is particularly popular.

Dubai

When it comes to unrivalled luxury, Dubai is the destination of choice. The Middle East provides guaranteed sun all year round and Dubai boasts some of the best hotels and attractions in the world. Famous hotels such as the Burj Al Arab are an iconic part of Dubai’s skyline and the hotel is a must-see even if you aren’t lucky enough to be staying in one of its luxurious rooms. If you enjoy a spot of retail therapy Dubai is a shopaholic’s dream, leave plenty of room in your suitcase for the return journey and be prepared to flex that credit card as you will be sure to bring back plenty of new possessions.

Egypt

Egypt is a popular destination for us Brits and its all-year-round sunshine and incredible sights make it a great place to escape our harsh winter weather. The beautiful coral reefs of the red sea allow holidaymakers to while away their afternoon snorkelling and relaxing on the beach when they would otherwise be battling the elements at home. Coupled with the chance to see some of the most famous wonders of the world, including the great pyramids you are very unlikely to be bored during a winter break in Egypt.

The Caribbean

If you like your winter breaks laid back then the guaranteed sunshine of the Caribbean islands are the destination of choice for you. Warm tropical waters, stunning beaches and palm trees provide the ideal setting to spend afternoons sipping on a rum cocktail and admiring the view. In the evening the laid back mood switches to a carnival atmosphere, if in Jamaica sample some Jerk chicken and dance the night away to reggae rhythms at a beach party. The Caribbean is the place to come to really relax and unwind a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life in the UK.
