5 Fundraising Events Close to the Coast

Who doesn’t like the seaside or a trip to the coast?

On a warm summer’s day, there is nothing better than kicking back on the beach, listening to the sea, and just relaxing. Of course, there is more to coastal towns than ice cream and piers.

Many seaside towns host charity events every year, which is a fun way to have a day at the beach, while also raising money for the charity of your choice. In the last few months of 2024, going into 2025, there are many events that are dedicated to fundraising near the coast, and if you like to be beside the seaside, they are well worth checking out!

1. Edinburgh Marathon- 24th-25th May 2025, Edinburgh

Is Edinburgh near the sea? Well, yes, it is only two miles away, which is a stones throw!

The Edinburgh marathon is a huge event, attracting well over 30,000 runners per year, and is also noted to be one of the biggest events for charities. The surface of the run is flat, so you don’t have to be a hardcore runner to take part, and it offers you the chance to see some of the historic landmarks around Edinburgh. So, type in Edinburgh Marathon 2025 – Macmillan Cancer Support (or another charity you want to support) into a search engine and see how you can sign up.

2. Jurassic Coast Challenge- 17th May 2025- Jurassic Coast, Dorset

Heavily linked to the charity the NSPCC, the Jurassic Coast route is great for those who love a scenic hike by the coast. It will take you through the UNESCO World Heritage Site, starting at Corfe Castle. Then, the hike takes you through Swanage and Lulworth Cove, which has some stunning views of the cliffs and the sea life.

Best of all, it takes place in May, so the weather should be temperate and not too warm!

3. Making Waves Exhibition- 22nd June 2025- Swansea

If the idea of hiking or running is too much for you, you can still raise funds by the coast, thanks to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

They host an array of exhibitions throughout the year, usually in Swansea and Plymouth, which allows you and your family to learn about this lifesaving organisation, while also donating money to charity at the same time. Great!

4. Plymouth Triathlon- 15th June 2025- Torpoint, Cornwall

If you want to make your trip to the beach one that involves you getting in the water to raise funds for charity, look no further than the Plymouth Triathlon. 1500 metres of sea swimming allows you to have a cool dip on what is likely to be a warm day and then enjoy the scenic surroundings of Torpoint afterwards. You may need a bit of prep for this, though- it is a triathlon!

5. Bournemouth Pier to Pier Swim- 5th July 2025- Boscombe Pier

Another fundraising event by the coast is the Bournemouth Pier swim, which starts at Boscombe Pier and ends at Bournemouth Pier, covering 1.4 miles. It is requested that all those who take part wear a wetsuit (to stay warm), and there are two start times to choose from โ€“ 2pm and 2.45 pm.
