Roanhead (Sandscale) Beach Info

Roanhead Beach is a sandy beach with wild, grass-covered dunes three miles north of Barrow-in-Furness. The beach is within the Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve, also known as Sandscale Beach.

Strong currents make it unsuitable for swimming, but the sand dunes and coastal scenery are very good.

Roanhead is dog-friendly and a popular coastal location for dog walking. With a long stretch of coastline, beach and dunes to explore, it’s a great place to visit. Dogs are allowed in all areas, but as Sandscale Haws is a National Nature Reserve, it is home to wildlife, and dogs must be kept under close control, leads recommended, within the dunes.

Car parking and seasonal toilets at the Sandscale Haws Nature Reserve car park. A seasonal hut serves drinks and ice-creams in the peak season.
