Charles Dickens visited Broadstairs in Kent regularly from 1837 until 1859. The Dickens Festival is run annually in June, a 3-day celebration of the life, times and novels of Charles Dickens.
The streets of Broadstairs come to life in Victorian style, with stalls, shopping and demonstrations celebrating Charles Dickens and Victorian culture as a whole.

Bleak House, formerly known as Fort House, is a large house on the cliff overlooking Viking Bay in Broadstairs. It is thought to have been built around 1816. A light was first exhibited at North Foreland, Broadstairs in 1499, but the first real lighthouse was built by Sir John Meldrum in 1636.
