The City of Bristol was a starting place for early voyages of exploration to the New World and visit today should take in the historical harbourside. The river Avon flows from Bath in the east, though the city and out into the Bristol Channel though the Avon Gorge. It is at the Avon gorge that you have the spectacular Clifton suspension bridge. For those interested in period properties then the city offers a wide variety of architectural styles, with buildings from most architectural periods. During the mid-19th century Bristol Byzantine, a style unique to the city, was developed, and several examples still survive today.
