Ashington is a town in southeast Northumberland located 24 km (15 miles) north of Newcastle upon Tyne. Ashington is one of the largest towns in Northumberland where it's growth came from coal miming. The south of the town is bordered by the River Wansbeck whist the North Sea coast at Newbiggin-by-the-Sea is about 5 km (3 miles) away.
