Charles Fort is one of the finest surviving examples of a 17th Century star-shaped fort, and much of the construction that began in 1678 exists today. Desmond Castle is actually a tower house located in the town of Kinsale, Cork. The castle was originally built as a Customs House in the early 1500s.
