About Rinsey Cove
Rinsey Cove, also known as Porthcew Beach, is a great sandy beach with large areas of rocks and rockpools. If you are after a wilder, less-trodden dog-friendly Cornish beach, Rinsey Cove is a gem. It’s tucked away beneath high cliffs, surrounded by mining heritage, and the views along the coast path are spectacular.
The beach is located on Rinsey Head and sits beneath the Wheal Prosper engine house. The beach is a Cornish jewel that is overlooked and often empty, with visitors limited to those staying nearby or passing by walkers on the coastal path. The beach is excellent for swimming at low tide, although it disappears at high tide.
Rinsey Cove has no facilities other than a small National Trust car park at Rinsey Head. The drive to the car park is a narrow single lane, whilst walking down from the car park to the beach is a steep, narrow path with some steps. Alternatively, the headland is a short walk from Praa Sands.
Because of the remote, steep access and changing tides, you’ll want to bring everything you might need (water, snacks) and keep an eye on the tidal situation.
Porthcew Beach at Rinsey Cove is a dog-friendly beach, and the coast path has some great walks with spectacular views along the coast from the cliff tops. Some of the terrain can be tricky, and it is advised to put the dogs on a lead at points for safety.
