St George’s Cove Beach is the closest beach to Padstow and is accessible by travelling north along the coast path. This is a sandy cove facing out into the Camel Estuary, and at low tide, it is possible to walk along a single stretch of sand from St George’s Cove through Harbour Cove and on to Hawkers Cove.
The beach is sheltered as it faces into the estuary rather than out to the sea, but the estuary can have strong currents, so swimming is not advised.
St George’s Cove Beach has seasonal dog restrictions, prohibiting dogs from 1st July to 31st August between 10 am โ 6 pm.
The walk from Padstow to St George’s Cove takes about 20 minutes, but when you arrive, you have no facilities, so you must take what you need. Excellent beach walk with great views across the Camel Estuary.
The beach is sometimes referred to as St George’s Well after what is believed to be a spring/well just in the woods up from the beach along the stream.
