Appleby Castle
Appleby Castle overlooks the River Eden and consists of a 12th century castle keep which is known as Caesar’s Tower, and a mansion house. These, together with their associated buildings, are set in a courtyard surrounded by curtain walls.
Appleby Castle is privately owned but is available for private celebrations, business conferences, filming and sporting events. History tours of the Castle are held daily but advance booking is essential.
During the summer months, the Castle holds a number of social events including open-air theatre and battle re-enactments.

Grange-over-Sands was a popular Victorian and Edwardian resort within Morecambe Bay that lies between the mountains and the sea. Bardsea beach is situated at the seaside village of Bardsea on the Furness Peninsula, standing on the west side of Morecambe Bay. The beach is a shingle beach at high tide but at low tide has a large amount of sand. Car parking besides the beach and the chance of a van selling ice-creams,coffee and tea.

Aldingham beach is a shingle and pebble beach at high tide but at low tide reveals a large area of sand looking. On the east coast of the Furness peninsula with views over Morecambe Bay and backed by the small village of Aldingham.

Askam-in-Furness beach is on the edge of Duddong sands, the pier is built from slag from the old ironworks. Facilities include toilets, picnic area, parking available next to the beach and more facilities in the town.

At over 900ft above sea level, Shap swimming pool is England’s highest open air heated pool. A 16m pool run entirely by volunteers, is open daily from May to September.

Askham has two pools, the main pool is 20m long with a qualified lifeguard on duty and the second for smaller children. The pools are set within half an acre of green space bordered by trees. There is also a kiosk selling tasty ice creams and snacks.
