Derrymore House is a typical example of late 18th-century thatched houses so often built by the gentry.
Now a National Trust Property, this elegant building stands in beautiful surrounds on a large estate just near Newry making it a good place to stop when on the road from Belfast to Dublin. There are good scenic walks and a lot of history here as this is where the Act of Union between Great Britain and Ireland was drafted. You can find out more about that in the Treaty Room but you’ll need to check open times and dates as it is limited.
Opening times are from around 10 am to 4 pm but do check on the National Trust site first.
Dogs are allowed in the grounds but on leads!
