Stranraer Marine Lake beach is a sandy beach to the side of the port and gets its name from the small lake in Agnew Park beside the beach. The beach is backed by a promenade and grassy areas. Facilities include car parking and a cafe can be found in the park.

Sandhead beach is a sandy beach 1 mile in length alongside the small village of Sandhead. As the tide goes out the beach can extend to nearer 3 miles. Good safe swimming but as the water can shallow you may have a long walk to get to sufficient depth to actually swim.

The Castle of St John is an early 16th-century L-plan tower house, built by the Adairs of Kilhilt around 1510. Over the centuries it has been used as a home, a court, a police station, a military garrison, and a Victorian prison. The castle is now a museum.
