Hornsea Mere
Hornsea Mere is the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds.
The lake is an area of 1.89 km2 (467 acres), 3.2 km (2 miles) long, 1.2 km (0.75 miles) at its widest point, 3.7 m (12 feet) at its deepest and has an average depth of 1.5 m (4 feet 11 inches).
Hornsea Mere lake offers walks, bird-watching, rowing, sailing, pitch & putt, boat trips and fishing.
During the first world war, the lake was a Royal Naval Air Service seaplane base – RNAS Hornsea Mere, opened in 1917 and operated for a couple of years to 1919. A number of brick buildings left are still in use today, used by the boatyard and the cafe.

Barmston beach is a 2km stretch of sandy beach with rocks and pebbles backed by soft clay cliffs south of Bridlington. The land around Barmston is only just above sea level and this area is constantly threatened by the North Sea. You can clearly see evidence of this erosion by the way the beach road just stops at a barrier

Skipsea Castle is a Norman motte and bailey castle, dating from before 1086. In 1221 the then castle’s owner, William de Forz, the Count of Aumale, rebelled against Henry III; the castle was captured by royalist forces and the King ordered it to be destroyed. The castle has no car park so please park carefully on the road.

Fraisthorpe Beach has the best kitesurfing conditions on the long East Riding of Yorkshire coast and is located just a short distance from Bridlington. It is hard to believe Beverley Minster is just a parish church as it is larger than a lot of English cathedrals. As one of the largest parish churches in the UK this is a great example of gothic architecture.
