Bexhill Beach sits along the East Sussex coast between Hastings and Eastbourne, easy to reach yet never too loud. Perfect for a day out at the seaside, with two miles of promenade running behind a long, gently shelving shingle beach with stretches of sand when the tide goes out.
The seafront promenade runs for miles, backed by Victorian and Edwardian architecture, flat and wide enough for a stroll or a jog if you’re feeling keen. At low tide, the sand opens right out.
A bit of history for you, Bexhill-on-Sea is thought to be the first UK beach to allow mixed bathing, where men and women could swim at the same beach.
Bexhill Beach is easily accessible by train from London Victoria or Brighton. The station is about a ten-minute walk from the seafront. If you drive, there’s pay-and-display parking along De La Warr Parade and side roads nearby.
Toilets sit close to the main promenade, along with plenty of options to grab something to eat or drink.
Dogs are welcome on most of Bexhill Beach throughout the year. From 1 May to 30 September, there’s a small section from Brockley Road (Sovereign Light Cafe) to Sea Road (Sailing Club), but the rest of the beach stays open. Signs by the promenade show the exact spots, so check before you wander.
