Brighton lifeboat station
Brighton Lifeboat station gives 24.7 search and rescue services between Newhaven and Shoreham on the Sussex coast.
The crews that man the lifeboat station and the boats are varied with few coming from a sailing background originally. This crew launches on around 60 rescues every year and must be at sea within 8 minutes of the emergency call. Many times they are faster ensuring that they are successful at helping casualties.
Most of the call outs for this station are within a 2 mile radius and the crew train twice a week in all weather conditions to keep up to date with rescue ops and procedures. It is a busy station due to the many beach visitors and the marina in the bay.
They encourage visitors in particular those from schools or communities that have an interest to see how they operate and are funded.
The first lifeboat at Brighton was in 1824. Early lifeboats were all weather but now the station houses an inshore lifeboat only.

Saltdean beach is shingle between rock groynes backed by high chalk cliffs and at low tide, you have rock pools to explore. Located approximately 5 miles to the East of Brighton. Due to the coastal erosion on this part of the coast you have a lot of concrete defences visible, so this is not a beach to get back to nature

West Quay beach is a sand and shingle beach tucked behind the western breakwater. Newhaven Fort is located on top of the cliffs with tunnels that lead down to the beach. Facilities include parking, cafe, slipway.

Newhaven Harbour beach is a small sandy beach within the harbour breakwaters that is exposed at low tide. The beach shares parking, cafe and slipway with the West Quay beach the other side of the breakwater. We have no dog information for Newhaven Harbour beach.

Victoria Chalets are located at Marina on St Leonards beach. These ten seasonal wooden chalets are available for weekly hire from March – September. Hire starts at 14:00 on the commencing Saturday and terminates at 11:30 noon on the vacating Saturday.
