Glendale
Glendale is a large estate of nearly 19 000 acres near to Dunvegan in the north-western corner of the Isle of Skye.
A beautiful part of the island, at the heart of the estate lies the community of Lephin which contains a shop, restaurants and a community hall.
Glendale is home to thousands of seabirds along its steep cliffs, whilst you can also catch sight of a wide variety of marine life such as whales, dolphins and basking shark off the coast. The meadows inland are a stunning sight, particularly in spring and summer, where you can spot bluebells and orchids in abundance.
All roads through Glendale are single-track with passing places and sheep and cattle roam freely across the land.
Visit the area of Glendale at any time of the year as there is always something to see. Dunvegan Castle lies within Glendale and is worth stopping off at.

Claigan Coral Beach is a fine white sandy beach on the shoreline of Loch Dunvegan. No facilities with access on foot.

Talisker Bay beach is in a bay with large cliff sides and waterfalls. The beach has sand below a layer of shingle although at high tide you will just have the shingle. No facilities.

Staffin Bay beach is on the North East of Isle of Syke and is known for it’s dinosaur footprints. No facilities, the beach has limited access with some parking mainly in the west end of the beach dotted around on the local roads. Neist Point Lighthouse is situated on the West Coast of Skye, was designed by David Alan Stevenson and was first lit in November 1909. An aerial cableway is used to take supplies to the lighthouse and cottages. Since 1990, the lighthouse has been operated remotely with the former keepers’ cottages now in private ownership. .

Macleod’s Tables are two flat-topped mountains that can be found at the eastern edge of the Glendale estate. Table South, Healabhal Beag, reaches to 1601ft and Table North, Healabhal Mor, to 1538 ft. If you are a keen walker, the climb to the top of these mountains can be exhilarating, and you’re rewarded with stunning views from the top.

Dunvegan Castle is a preserved castle on a rocky promontory on the shores of Loch Dunvegan on the Isle of Skye. The seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod clan chief, it is the oldest castle in Scotland to be continuously inhabited and has been the MacLeod family home for 800 years. Trumpan Church is a ruined building in the hamlet of Trumpan on the Vaternish peninsula in the north of the Isle of Skye. The church was the scene of a brutal murder in 1578 when the MacDonald clan of Uist burnt down the building including all but one of the church-goers inside.
