Kilt Rock

Kilt Rock is a sea cliff in the northeast of the Trotternish peninsula on the Isle of Skye.

The rock is so-called as it resembles a kilt, with the vertical columns of basalt forming the pleats and the dolerite sills the kilt’s pattern.

Visitors stop off here, on the road between Portree and Staffin, to view Kilt Rock as there is a large car park as well as Mealt Waterfall, which drops water off the cliff to 170ft below. The waterfall has a designated viewpoint.
