Cleethorpes Pier

Cleethorpes Pier – In the late 19th Century Cleethorpes in North East Lincolnshire was becoming a popular resort for those wanting to escape the large industrial towns of Yorkshire and Lancashire.

Cleethorpes Pier was officially opened on August Bank Holiday Monday 1873 and the large difference between low and high tide at Cleethorpes meant it needed to be a long pier, some 1,200 feet (370m) in length, although after the Second World War it was reduced to 335ft (101m). The pier comprised a timber deck and pavilion (constructed in 1888) and supported on iron piles.

Today Cleethorpes Pier in its much shorter form is a fish & chip shop all be it a very large one.
