New Brighton beach is a large sandy beach with views over to the Liverpool skyline. At low tide, the sand does turn into mud and so care should be taken. West Kirby lifeboat station was established in 1966 and operates an inshore lifeboat. Station is only open by appointment, no shop.

Hilbre Island Lighthouse provides a port land mark for the Hilbre swash in the River Dee estuary. This small automatic lighthouse came under the full jurisdiction of Trinity House in 1973, before this it was operated by the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board Authority.
