Holkham Beach is part of the Holkham estate and within one of Britain’s largest nature reserves. A large sandy beach on the Norfolk coast path backed by sand dunes, marshland and pine woods. The beach is nearly 1 km wide at low tide and nearly 6 km (4 miles) long.
It is ideal for families that want to get away from amusements and arcades to play on the beach and walk around the nature reserve. This is a rural beach so you have snacks available during the summer months and lifeguard at weekends during the summer.
Care must be taken when swimming due to strong tidal currents, keep between the red and yellow flags.
Dogs are welcome on Holkham Beach all year round, but as this is a nature reserve between the 1st April and the 31st August, a dogs-on-leads policy is in place on marked areas of the beach. Even during this breeding season, you will have most of the beach open to walking off the lead.
Horse riding is allowed on the beach below the high tide mark only.
Holkham Beach parking is in the Holkham Nature Reserve car park or you can walk from Wells-next-the-Sea. For facilities you have the Lookout Cafe by the beach serving drinks and a light menu including cakes, sausage rolls, sandwiches and soups.
