The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts is a museum and art gallery situated on the University of East Angliaโs campus in Norwich, Norfolk.
The grade II listed glass and steel structure was designed by Norman Foster, a relatively unknown architect at the time, and opened in 1978. The centre houses the extensive fine and decorative artwork collection of Lord Robert Sainsbury and his wife, Lady Lisa Sainsbury. The collection includes pieces from Jacob Epstein, Henry Moore, Albert Giacometti and Francis Bacon.
In 1991, the centre was extended and Foster designed a new wing which is built below ground. It has a crescent-shaped frontage overlooking a man-made lake.
