Penally Beach

If you’re after a peaceful seaside escape just outside the bustle of Tenby, Penally Beach is an excellent spot. It feels like a hidden extension of Tenby’s South Beach, but with its own calm, quiet character and fewer visitors.

Nestled beneath Giltar Point headland, the beach is backed by soft dunes and overlooks Caldey Island, giving you beautiful views out to sea. Because it’s less developed than its neighbouring beaches, it’s a favourite for walkers, families, and dog lovers.

What Makes It Special

• Tranquil and spacious: The dune-backed, sandy nature makes it much quieter than the busier Tenby town beaches.
• Coastal walking: The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs nearby, making it a great starting point for headland walks and scenic vistas.
• Natural beauty: From the beach, you can enjoy views of Caldey Island and across Carmarthen Bay.
• Low-tide link: At low tide, Penally Beach connects with Tenby South and Castle Beach so that you can stretch your legs for a longer walk.

The car park is at Penally Railway Station, just off the A4139. From there, a path crosses the railway line and winds through the dunes, past the golf course, to the beach.

No facilities at the beach, with some toilets in the car park by the station.

Dogs are welcome year-round on Penally Beach. The dunes and headland make it a lovely place for a dog walk, and because it’s quieter than the other Tenby beaches, there’s more space for them to roam.
