Tenby Castle Beach

Perched below Castle Hill and framed by cliffs, Tenby’s Castle Beach is a quiet, sandy cove with a lot of character. It’s one of the most atmospheric spots in Tenby, thanks to its proximity to St Catherine’s Island and the old castle ruins.

What Makes It Special

• Scenic Setting: The beach is tucked beneath towering cliffs and Castle Hill, with views over St Catherine’s Island.
• Tide-Sensitive: At high tide, the sandy part of the beach largely disappears; therefore, timing your visit matters.
• Historic Charm: Castle Hill is home to Tenby Museum & Art Gallery, giving you a chance to mix beach time with a bit of history.
• Boat Access: From Castle Beach (when the tide allows), you can catch boats to Caldey Island.
• St. Catherine’s Island: If you’re a little more adventurous, you can walk out to St. Catherine’s Island, but beware as the tide can cut you off.

There’s no dedicated car park for the beach itself; the nearest parking options include Rectory Pay & Display, Five Arches Pay & Display, or the multi-storey car park near Sainsbury’s.

Facilities include cafes, toilets, deckchair hire and summer lifeguards, but you then also have access to many cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops in Tenby.

There is a seasonal ban on dogs between 1 May and 30 September on the western part of Castle Beach (west of St Catherine’s Island).
