The beaches in Lincolnshire are well worth visiting. Most are long stretches of golden sands with good facilities for everyone to enjoy their day out.
There are quite a few beaches in the area ranging from small bays to vast expanses of wild and undeveloped beaches great for dog walking or just sunbathing. It’s unnecessary to hang out your ‘reserved’ towel on these sands as there’s so much room!
Cleethorpes Beach
This area was a fishing village that became popular as a holiday resort in the 1800s. Now, there is a well-established town and a very big beach area for visitors to enjoy as it has a pier and a very entertaining promenade!
Apparently, in 1956, a UFO was spotted off the coast at Cleethorpes and was also seen by radar at RAF Manby!
Cleethorpes actually sits on the Humber estuary. The sea at Cleethorpes is actually the mouth of the Humber. This means that bathers are separated from the sea by several hundred yards of sand at low tide. It’s an unspoilt beach of sand with a gentle slope into the sea, making it ideal for bathers and small children. Parking is ample here, and facilities are good.
Skegness Beach
Skegness is a big attraction on this coastline and has a lot of facilities and attractions for the whole family. The beaches here are very well kept with pram and wheelchair access, good parking, cafes, donkey rides, crazy golf and an outdoor pool!
Skegness is probably the most famous beach spot in the UK, so it’s also the busiest! It’s a blue flag beach with many different cafes and restaurants, lifeguards, toilets, deckchairs for hire and huts/chalets to keep all your gear in. There is also a large car park and other parking available in the town.
Dogs are welcome but not in high season, i.e. Summer!
Sutton-on-Sea Beach
This award-winning beach has unhurried air and is a favourite with families as it has a really wide, soft, sandy beach for sunbathing and swimming.
The colourful beach huts on the promenade are for rent and perfect for storing all your beach essentials during your holiday. There is an outdoor pool, trampolines, cafes, loos, a children’s play area and the ancient remains of a submerged forest!
Mablethorpe Beach
Mablethorpe is another blue flag beach with great attractions nearby. This beach is huge and sandy and separated from the town by large sand dunes!
It’s a short walk from the fun at Adventure world, the funfair and floral gardens that line the promenade with its array of places to eat or enjoy a drink. There’s a train to take day trippers to the North of the beach to save you the hike if you have a lot of gear with you.
Anderby Beach
This is one of Lincolnshire’s quieter beaches, and it’s a good place to walk the dog or bird watch as well as sunbathing or picnicking. This beach boasts the UK’s first ‘cloud watching’ platform with seats designed specifically for the task!
