Five best UK cities to live in with easy access to the coast

If you want the convenience of city life and the natural beauty of the coast, you’ll need to find somewhere that caters to both. Luckily, we’re not short of stunning coastal spots around the UK, some accessible from major cities.

These are the seven best cities to live in if you want the best of city and coastal life.

Brighton & Hove

The south coast has some of the most popular seaside regions in the UK, many of which would be right on your doorstep in the city of Brighton & Hove.

Known for its iconic pier, pebble beach, and Regency architecture, it has a lively culture for people of all ages. Brighton’s seafront provides a classic seaside experience, but a short trip up the coast can take you to spectacular areas like Beachy Head.

Bristol

You wouldn’t immediately connect this city with the coast, but you’d be surprised how well you are here. You’d certainly have the best of both worlds in a new home in Bristol

The River Avon runs into the Severn Estuary and out into the Bristol Channel before meeting the Atlantic. Seaside gems like Portishead and Weston-super-Mare are just down the coast, as well as the beautiful Exmoor National Park and Devon further into the south-west.

The city itself is popular with families because of its outstanding schools and green status. Could this be somewhere you call home?

Liverpool

Liverpool’s waterfront is world-famous, with the Albert Dock and River Mersey shaping the city as we know it today. It’s got rich music and cultural history to boot, as well as affordable housing if you’re looking for somewhere on a tighter budget.

Crosby Beach and Formby Beach stretch for miles with clean, golden sands. These areas are popular with runners, cyclists and dog walkers looking out over the Irish Sea. The spectacular North Wales coastline is within easy driving distance, too.

Inverness

For a slower pace of life and access to one of the most spectacular regions in the country, Inverness should be on your list. It’s the gateway to the Scottish Highlands and the rugged Moray Firth coast.

Breathtaking beaches at Nairn and Findhorn offer glorious walks throughout the year. The NC 500 route hugs much of the coastline, giving you access to the stunning wilderness on offer. You’ll be spoilt for choice if you love the outdoors.

Norwich

Some would argue that Norfolk is blessed with the best coastline and beaches in the UK. The city of Norwich is positioned perfectly to take advantage of sublime spots like Great Yarmouth, Cromer, Happisburgh, and Holkham Bay

The Broads National Park is also great for visitors of all ages, with water sports, wildlife, and walking and cycling trails for miles. How does the Norwich area sound?
