Late Summer Holiday Fun in Lincolnshire

Lincolnshire boasts an unspoilt coastline and some wide, golden sand beaches making it the ideal destination for a ‘staycation’ most of the year round.

Names like Skegness and Mablethorpe will take you back to your childhood as you remember the beaches, adventure parks, promenades, donkey rides and candyfloss of this naturally beautiful area.

Lincolnshire is a birdwatcher and marine life paradise with its great colonies of seals and many different species of birdlife to be found in their natural habitat.

This area is known for its ‘big sky’ and open space with the wolds offering the prettiness of rolling hills and the Fens the marshlands that run down to the Wash.  It’s the perfect spot for rambling, hiking, sailing, mooching around the shops and old market towns or simply basking in the sun on one of the many blue flag beaches.

Louth, a genuine old market town offers about five walks in the town and surrounds. You can walk the canal or find a more challenging walk in the wolds.  Louth also boasts two good golf courses!

Bridlington has two superb beaches awarded the blue flag along with six others in Lincolnshire including Withernsea, Hornsea, Cleethorpes and Barmston!

Skegness, along with Mablethorpe, is a popular resort with miles of beach and the famous Skegness Pier with all it’s fun attractions for the whole family to enjoy

You’ll find a lot to do in Lincolnshire.  There are a great many cycling trails and routes that will suit every age as well as horse riding on the beaches, fishing for keen anglers, amusements, Natureland Seal Sanctuary, donkey rides, paddling pools, and bird watching to name but a few.

 

Then there’s the local entertainment for fun-filled evenings. Take in a movie at the Kinema in the Woods at Woodhall Spa.  It’s the only UK cinema still using rear projection and is surrounded by woods!   Continuing on the outdoor entertainment theme try the Rutland Open Air Theatre in the grounds of Tolethorpe Hall where the plays are set in a mystical glade in the Summer!

If you’re better indoors then the Theatre Royal has a full calendar and the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre and the Engine Shed are renowned for their large acts, musicals and concerts.

For the twitchers, Lincolnshire’s coastline is home to about a million migrating birds every year and you’ll find great opportunities for bird watching at Anderby with its cloud viewing platform settled in the sand dunes or stop at Gilbraltar Point or Donna Nook Reserve.

You’ll find varied and plenty accommodation establishments offering you a wide choice of romantic or family hotels, resorts, bed and breakfasts and guest houses!
