East Sussex is a county based in the South East of England and alongside Surrey, West Sussex and Kent with a coastline on the English Channel.
This is where the ocean and the South Downs meet and high cliffs of white chalk impose over the shoreline. Beachy Head takes pride of place as the highest sea cliff in Britain to the south of Eastbourne and Hastings lays claim to being the only port without a harbour. Rye, the smugglers paradise takes you back in time and Senlac Hill lies as a grim reminder of the time Britain was successfully invaded in the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Brighton lies in the heart of this county – a vibrant and entertaining seaside town of some renown and perfect for long weekends away. There’s a large marina and pier and the seafront forms the centre offering good nightlife and delicious eateries.
Beaches here are long, mostly sandy and with history like the traditional seaside town of Bexhill, the promenade at Eastbourne and the sands at Rye and Winchelsea (the smallest town in England!). Camber Sands is famous for its vast golden sands and large dunes.
A little way inland lies Alfriston which is a chocolate box English village with narrow streets and thatched cottages, pubs and cream teas.
