Portishead is on the North Somerset coast within the Severn Estuary with views over towards the South Wales coastline. Portishead is a port town and its name comes from the "port at the head of the river". The port has now been redeveloped as a marina and the town itself has blended in with Bristol and this makes the beach one of the easiest to reach from Bristol. Although a lot of the area is built up the town is surrounded by great countryside for walkers including Gordano Valley Nature Reserve, Battery Point and the Clevedon Coast Path.
Why not check beaches nearby as we have one beach around Portishead and 21 beaches in Somerset. You can even take a look at our list of Somerset dog friendly beaches or even our United Kingdom Blue Flag beach list.
