Newton Bay, also called Black Rock Beach, lies to the east of Porthcawl. It’s a long stretch of beach that transitions between sand and rocky zones, backed by dunes and stretching toward the mouth of the River Ogmore. Behind the beach lies the Newton Burrows & Merthyr Mawr Dunes, a protected area (SSSI) that adds a wild, natural feel.
It’s favoured by walkers, watersports enthusiasts (including windsurfing, kitesurfing, and jet skis), and people who enjoy a more natural, less commercialised beach experience. People looking for a family beach tend to look towards one of the other Porthcawl Bays.
Newton Bay Beach is an all-year-round dog-friendly beach.
There is car parking and a slipway, but for other facilities, including toilets, you must go to Newton Village or Trecco Bay holiday park.
