The Royal Pier in Aberystwyth is a pleasure pier and was the first pier to open in Wales in 1865. Although, after a series of storms, the pier is now a much-shortened version at 91 metres (299 ft), compared to its original length of 242 metres (794 ft).
Today the pier has an amusement arcade, bar, restaurant, nightclub and promenade fish bar.

Clarach Bay is a sand and shingle beach although a large sandy beach is exposed at low tide. This is a westerly facing beach approximately 500 metres wide and is sheltered by shale cliffs on either side.
